Original Tunes Contest 15: Inn/Tavern

Theme: Inn/Tavern
Deadline: 2018-07-28

About the theme… This is a place to get lodgings, satisfy your hunger, or just thirst. Think of the atmosphere and circumstances of a scene taking place in one, and go with it. You got the stereotypical lone-bard plucking his lyre, or maybe the theme is about a place to rest in, or something more rowdy to match the high spirits while high on spirits.

Every music style is welcome, you can make 8bits musics, orchestral arrangements, live recordings, electronic music… As long as it fits the theme, everything is allowed!

To enter your song must be an original creation of your own made specifically for this contest.
You can upload your songs on youtube, soundcloud or any other place that allows the listening without having to download it.

Your song must be 1 minute long MINIMUM.

At the end of the month, during 2 or 3 days people will vote to elect the best entry (voting info provided later on).

Good luck.

Congrats to Tyler for his victory last month with his song “Lost in the Jungle”.

You can find full results of last month contest here: Original Tunes Contest 14: Tribal/Quirky Village

On the 2018 championship you can see that Avaruussaha is steal leading, followed by Danilo Ciaffi and Mairiba!

I’m guessing we just post it here…

Well, here’s my submission: https://soundcloud.com/jeremybell33/drinks-at-the-tavern

Here’s my lil’ track : https://soundcloud.com/florian-decros/inn-tavern

Thought I was gone forever? Here’s my theme, just a generic RPG tavern song. I hope I’ll have time to work on it in the future, I’d like to add vocals, but idk

Hey if it wasn’t clearly explained but i think tracks have to be unreleased, or even better, song composed “for” this contest

seemed like fun so i decided to participate

Sorry, hashel, I didn’t see anything about guidelines in the OP. I just followed a link that someone posted on a group in Facebook and thought that track would fit. Since it doesn’t fit the criteria, though, you’re more than welcome to remove the post. Sorry for that.

Sorry we just forgot to precise that in the rules, but if you have something unreleased or if you’re in the mood to create a new piece (even something simple) you have almost a full month to do so =)

Hashel mentioned this contest over in the PM Discord so I thought I’d toss my hat in the ring with this theme. Enjoy!

Oh no, Moonbike is joining, we are all doomed!

Hi guys,

I drop my idea here. thanks

A new challenger enters the contest pit :o

Here’s my track. For the composition I went for a mix of mostly medieval era instruments and a bit of modern. It was a great opportunity to experiment with some lesser known/used instruments, learn more about them and try out some new techniques.

For the theme I imagined a tavern at the center of a harbor or port, hosting all types of patrons sailing in from all different parts of the world. Rowdy and busy all throughout the night, it’s a place known for good ale, laughs, gambling, dancing and the occasional brawl.

Everybody’s tracks are sounding awesome so far, keep em coming!

Thanks so much for hosting this; I had a lot of fun writing for it!

My initial idea was to go more the lively, Celtic-ish tavern route. But by the time I’d started writing this I noticed that a few people had already done this really well, so I decided to pull a 180 and go more for a relaxed Inn idea (or “a place to rest in”, as you mention in the OP), with just a little bit of liveliness here and there.

Really enjoyed getting to go for the rustic/fantasy sound; was a good excuse to mess around with/learn to mix samples I probably wouldn’t have used otherwise. Also got me thinking on what kind of sounds signify “rest” (god bless free music box samples).

It’s been incredible to see so many awesome takes on this prompt; can’t wait to see the rest!

And 2 new really solid entries :o

Greetings, i just subscribed to Gametabs in order to participate to the music contest!
I mostly work on Amiga homebrew games but am also trying to diversify for other platforms and hopefully indie games.
My weapon of choice is Milkytracker.
This is my take on the Inn theme: a simple calm melody using cello, pizzicato, oboe and bass strings.

Welcome aboard!

Hi and welcome! At the end of the month we make a SoundCloud playlist with all the entries, so both votants and curious forum users can find them all in one place. If you want your entry to be featured you can upload it on SC and share it here

My soundcloud is crammed full so have no more space, you can contact me in private and i can provide you the audio file if there is any place to host - else will see if i can manage to free something
