Original Tunes (Story) Collaborative S1E1: Prologue

We are forgetting the past for now, and kicking off with a Prologue, which should set the stage for the upcoming hook or interesting event. Along with your submission, please provide a few words to describe whats going on (roughly is good enough) - these details might influence the next theme.

Every music style is welcome, you can make 8bits musics, orchestral arrangements, live recordings, electronic music… As long as it fits the theme, everything is allowed!

To enter, your song must be an original creation of your own made specifically for this thread.
You can upload your songs on Youtube, SoundCloud or any other place that allows the listening without having to download it.

Your song must be 1 minute long MINIMUM.

The submission rules are not changing, but I’m experimenting with the idea of keeping a connection between the successive themes. When put together, these themes form a narrative (or an otherwise logical bunch), and are accompanied with a description of the events in the imaginary game.

You can also see that I’m avoiding the word contest here. There never was a prize anyway, and the judging always felt a bit awkward to me. For this experiment, we are still going to be choosing someone’s track and description of the scene, which will be used to define the next logical theme in the series. Discuss below!

Let’s see where we are at around 29th of January.

YAY Original tunes are back!

Let me add some precision that may inspire some of you:

  • Do not use existing games as references for your prequel/prologue story
  • No restriction on the universe: high fantasy, historic, western, sci-fi, realistic…

Some examples:

  • A young hero is awakening in his peaceful forest village
  • An experienced hunter is about to go in the snowy mountain to kill a legendary beast
  • A rookie is about to make his first escort mission with his brand new spaceship
  • A princess is about become queen after her father’s death
  • A scientist lady is about to make a discovery that will change the face of the world as we know it

Just let your imagination speak

I’ve got a start! I’m trying something different than what I would usually do, so I’m not sure how well it will turn out, haha. We shall see! I’m enjoying this so far!

I have 3 minutes of raw ideas, gotta turn them into a song, i also have a full chapter of lore ready for the story ahah

Well, here is my entry! I’m sadly super busy with other projects to really put a lot of time into this, still hope you’ll enjoy the melody

Choirs of the Mountain

This plays during the funerals of the Chief of the Kahln Tribe, people living in the Mountains.
Those are mostly hunters, they dress with animals’ fur and leather and use scales or bones as ornaments.
Some are muscular and tall, ready to face the wrath of nature, others are smaller but agile, able to use the most difficult paths.

As tradition wants, a new Chief has to be elected, for this, the bravest men and women of the Tribe must go in the mountains and hunt. After a week, the one who comes back with the most impressive pray will be chosen to be the new Chief.

The start of he song represents the mourning ceremony, and as the song goes on it starts to represent the will of the volunteers for the hunt who’re about to face the Mountain and it’s beasts and the feeling of adventure grows.

How to continue the story:
There are several possibilities, it could be the theme of the main character + explain what kind of character it is (gender, age, look, abilities, participates to the hunt or not…), it could be the theme of the mountain (is it snowy and beautiful, rocky and dangerous, full of pine tree and mysterious…) or the theme of a fight against any kind of beast (1 vs 1 or a small group of hunters, is it an animal, is it a monster…).

That was quicker than I expected! Nice one

Here we go! I had this idea and puked it all at once.

A sect is performing a ritual where one innocent person is murdered and brought back from the dead only to carry with them some dark powers. I pictured a dark dungeon, maybe in a big city underground and forgotten spaces.

The lyrics at the end are:

“Redi ab inferis (come back from hell)
fers tecum tenebras (bring darkness with you)”

Will everything go as planned?

Damn that’s a cool one!
Is it a medieval fantasy world?
Kinda makes me think of diablo ^^

I’m not sure, I thought it could be interesting in a sort of Victorian setting too! I didn’t even think if it is a world of humans or if there are other races. An idea I had for the Victorian one is to infuse some steampunk elements in it as well. I didn’t specify anything so to leave more freedom for the next chapters though

Victorian Steampunk sounds interesting and original! (compared to classic j-rpg)

'ere we go:

We start with a scene where a lone emergency capsule floats through empty space. There are three stasis coffins within, but only one of them is occupied (protagonist). The capsule has been broadcasting a distress signal for who knows how long, and finally the signal has been caught by someone.

A peculiar looking vessel is approaching the capsule as the prologue scene ends, preparing to pick up and thaw the protagonist. What kind of people are these saviors? Are they even people?

And science fiction now

Hello there! Hashel’s been talking this contest up a bunch in the Pixel Mixers Discord. I managed to find some inspiration for an original tune + concept, so I thought I would throw my hat into the ring!

“One day, our protagonist was assigned to clean out a storehouse for their boss. As they progress, the protagonist finds a strange, old book. The protagonist releases the latches, and opens the book. Suddenly, objects begin to fly around the room. The protagonist tries to close the book, but to no avail. The protagonist is then lifted off their feet, and are absorbed into the book! What world awaits them inside the Tome of Weorpen?”

Great tunes so far! Looking forward to hearing more, and participating further. :grinning:

Welcome here Dewey, glad to see a new challenger entering the pit!
Pretty cool track too, fits very well the scene!

Hey, that’s nice!

Alright, waiting a bit!

I’m planning on submitting something as well
Will be done by the deadline :3

I’ve got one in the works, sadly I haven’t had as much time for it as I would have liked to. Also might be a bit long-winded…
